The Bozeman House

James Sydney Bozeman and Mary Annie Bozeman built a house located at 168 FM 2187 in Sealy in the late 1920s. James was born in 1890 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. James and Mary Annie married in 1922 and settled in Sealy. James' early work life was spent in the oil fields.

Mary Annie died in 1956 and James died in 1968 having lived in the house throughout most of their adult lives. After James' death, the J.D. Sartwelle family lived in the home for a period of time following their purchase of the surrounding land.

The house is built in a very typical Craftsman era style featuring wide eaves with exposed rafter ends, lower pitch roof, and Prairie style doors.

The Sealy Area Historical Society plans to restore the house to its original appearance as much as possible. The house retains its original windows, flooring, doors, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, bathtub, and hardware, making it an ideal candidate for restoration.

The original wallpapers used on the walls and ceilings of most rooms has been uncovered as well as the original faux ceramic tile in the kitchen and breakfast alcove. The interior will be restored to closely match the original finishes.

Addition of the Bozeman House to the Sealy Historical Park provides a wonderful opportunity for the Sealy Area Historical Society to expand its museum display space as well as provide space for educational events.
